HELP ! Please - Bigpond EMAILS via OUTLOOK

Hi,

I am a simple, plain computer user (has been for many years).

I HATE all innovations. I am happy with all the equipment/systems I currently have.

I think that all innovations should be implemented upon the request of the future user.

I fell that – FOR THE 2nd TIME – I am forced by Telstra to something that is totally against my wish and my needs.

Firstly – new modem.

A couple months ago I was directed by Telstra to replace my good and satisfactory modem to the new wireless. Long time ago someone connected many things together (computer and TV).

Connection of the new modem was a simple task – but in eyes of the Telstra people. I had no idea how to do it.

Calling to the Telstra Support (located in India – foreign accent but very friendly and desperately trying to help me) was very, very frustrating.

Please add to it a complete lack of technical terminology on my behalf and you will get a picture.

My knowledge re: computers, connections, cables is BELOW BASIC level!

I am jst the user!

At the end I was advised to get someone to help me.

So I had to call the computer expert to help me.

But he was unable to re-connect the new modem the way the old one was before so I lost many useful functions I enjoyed before.

On the top of that his visit cast me $150.

Why Telstra forced the expense on me???

I was happy with the previous modem, I don’t need wireless, I will not use it….

 

And now the second problem.

Recently I stopped receiving emails via Outlook for a few days.

My life was in turmoil. I was waiting for the email from Ticketek with show tickets being our wedding anniversary gift for my husband.

I was also waiting for the invoice allowing me to pay the balance of our cruise.

I don’t have a mobile – in fact never had. I don’t even know how to use mobile. Landline is perfectly sufficient for us.

It was a very stressful period of my life.

Looking for any info I began searching the internet to find some answers.

I found out that there will be big changes to my email.

What changes and when?

I hate changes.

In my case it is always for worse.

It always comes with additional unforseen expenses, with a HUGE STRESS, with big loss.

Do I HAVE TO change anything?

I saw the word “platform” repeated a few time. What is platform?

What relevance does platform have here?

Someone mentioned the need for a new settings. What settings?

I never touched any settings.

Everything - whatever needed to be done - was done for me by the computer technician – long time ago.

I am scared to touch any setting because - I am sure – I will ruin them.

Does it mean that I have to call technician again?

And pay another $150??

I have a huge number of emails placed neatly in a number of folders.

Will I loose them???

Someone suggested back-up.

What is back-up?

How do you back-up emails in the format that I can see them now?

 

Could someone here be so kind and explain it to me in a very plain language???
