Block sender feature of Bigpond webmail

The Block Sender feature of Bigpond Web email doesn't appear to work.

I have used the Settings, Email, Block Sender feature and entered a valid domain name (as suggested) and it doesn't appear to work at all. I've just recently started receiving heaps of spam and if this feature worked it would be a real bonus.

The sender(s) of all this spam appear to be using randommly generated email addresses  so blocking individual addresses appears frivolous. Blocking the domain would be obviously the more effective way to go but it appears not to work.

Has anyone else found this feature not effective?

Well it appears that thread has someone else (Sickof Spam) complaining about the same thing I am complaining about. They have done the same as me (ie blocked a domain) and it has not made any difference.

So I come back to my original issue.

Has anyone had any success with blocking senders in Bigpond Webmail by adding a domain address to stop emails for a particular domain address in the Block Senders section.

cretsiah your post in the thread was not helpful to my problem except to show someone else is having the same unresolved problem.

did you bother to read the whole thread or just the first post????

there is an answer in that thread

you also need to run anti virus scanners (sepereate to the one you are running currently on your system)

but hey what ever

For some months now I intermittently have issues with emails sending. I have been able to go into repair in outlook and it fixes the problem, however this isnt working anymore!! Sooo frustrating as nothing has changed, password the same, computer the same.

complete steps are:

1) scan all devices you access mail on (computers tablets phones

2) look in the "header information" of the emails as  tells you to do in the other thread.

3) find the the most common denominator in that "header information" create a rule to block/ permanent delete it (example my post).

4) rinse and repeat

another option is to have your email account suspended for a few days.

Hi Jack55,

If these suggestions haven't helped you please get in touch with our Technical Support team on 133 933 so they can investigate this further.

Hi MargOZ,

Please go into E-mail accounts on your email program and re-enter your username and password. As some settings have recently changed, while you are in the E-mail accounts screen, please check the rest of your settings so that they match the settings we have listed here: https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/email/set-up/imap-pop-and-smtp-information-for-manual-email-set-up#bigpond

Emails getting rejected by Bigpond with IB113 and IB112 errors

Hi,

We have a large number of clients that either have bigpond.net.au or bigpond.com email address that are now getting blocked with the following rejection errors whenever they are emailed.

"Connection refused. IB113"
"Connection refused. IB112"

This appears to have started over the weekend.

Preveoulsy we had issues Bigpond rejecting our emails with errors IB504 & IB007 and this was resolved by Shelly (Shellock) who was able to add us to Bigpond's whitelist of bulk senders.

Can the whitelist be checked to see if there were any changes over the weekend that is now resulting in us being blocked?

Thanks,

Murray

Hi oliverhere,

There was an issue with outgoing emails on Saturday which has now been resolved.

If you are still having issues, please make sure your username for SMTP authentication contains the domain .com.

We are having the exact same issue, and were also previously having this issue back in Jan (see Link Below)

https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Telstra-and-or-BigPond-Email/Bigpond-mail-is-rejecting-emails-from-my-whitelist-sender/td-p/639902

previously the issue was only related to Bigpond.net.au but now is with .net & .com

Our mail is hosted with Office 365 (this seemed to be a common connection last time the issue was around)

See below rejection email

This message is a warning that an email you are trying to send has not yet been delivered. You do not have to do anything yet as the email is still queued for delivery.

An email you addressed to email address :

-- ***********@bigpond.net.au

has not yet been delivered. The problem appears to be :

-- Recipient server unavailable or busy

Additional information follows :

-- Connection refused. IB113

This condition occurred after 6 attempt(s) to deliver over a period of 1 hour(s).

You will receive a rejection notice after a maximum of 4 days if the email cannot be delivered. If you sent the email to multiple recipients you will receive one of these messages for each one which is still undelivered, otherwise they have been sent.

** address recipient has been changed

Yes, the users on the domain that's being blocked are also O365 users. Also Mimecast users as well [just to complicate it].

I'm currently chasing up DKIM settings with the external domain as that is the only place i can find any anomlies.

I think, that definitions of IB112 & IB113 are:

IB112: This IP address has attempted to mail too many invalid recipients and has been blocked for an hour.

IB113: This IP address has attempted to mail too many invalid recipients and has been blocked for the remainder of the day.

Check your lists for incorrect addresses and repeat after expiry of the blocking...
