Re: Telstra webmail unblock sender

Thanks for letting us know. I have replicated this issue on Google Chrome and Safari on my iPhone and I will pass this information back to the relevant team so that they can look into why some of these settings are not available via mobile/tablet devices and for future changes.

Until this is addressed, I can only recommend that you use a computer or laptop to view and adjust these settings.

Re: Suspended email account

Hi Sue1364,

If your account has been suspended again after a short period, this means that the cause of the original suspension was not addressed. This means that we detected spam being sent from your mailbox which indicates that your username and password are being used by someone else who is using spam or that you have a virus/trojan on your computer that is using your service to send spam.

Even though you are overseas, you will still need to make sure that each device that accesses your BigPond mailbox has updated security software and has been scanned for virus/trojan activities. Once this has been done, you can contact us via Live Chat (http://tel.st/hsc3) to organise that this suspension be removed.

Once your mailbox has been restored, you will need to change your password to something completely different to any that you have used previously. If someone has your current username and password, they may be able to easy guess the new password if it is something similar.

Thks so much...I don't travel with my laptop sadly, so this solution is problematic until Chrome is supported fully with yr app.
Of course, if Telstra webmail handled Spam more effectively as with my Gmail and Yahoo accounts, then I would not need to use this block senders feature so extensively. I can see by research online that poor Spam functionality is a well known ongoing issue with Bigpond.
I appreciate the prompt involvement of Tech Support Smiley Happy

This is something that we are continuing to refine on, however it is a delicate balance as we do not want to sweep up legitimate emails along with the spam. Thanks for the feedback - Shelly

Ever since they migrated Bigpond email servers over to Telstra last year it has been a shambles.

I've been suspended ten times over the last few months and it is a business account.

The spam/virus story is cover for sonething else that's haywire.

I run fully licenced versions of Malwarebytes and Bitdefender.

Refuse to pay your bill.

The service is unreliable and an inconistent offering under Australian Consumer Law.

When they start going on about how great the "cloud" is remember: it's just another computer somewhere.

How can you undo a mark as spam for a domain within Telstra Webmail?  Add to safe senders doesn't seem to do the trick.

Bigpond falsely detecting my outgoing Optus emails as spam only when sent to Bigpond email addresses

All emails that I send to any Bigpond email address from my business email address support@pcsanity.net are falsely detected as spam & therefore returned to me.
All emails that I send from that same business email address to any other domain's email address e.g. Optus, TPG, iinet, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc do go to the recipient.
I am the owner of PC Sanity. I contacted my ISP (Optus) & they advised me to contact Bigpond. I am trying to run a business & rely on emails a lot so I need this corrected ASAP please.

Here are just 3 samples of returned emails:
host extmail.bigpond.com [203.36.137.234]
SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: 558 59108FB8230859F7
Message content rejected due to suspected spam. IB703

and

host extmail.bigpond.com [203.36.172.106]
SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: 558 5910A5C61C9B8AB0
Message content rejected due to suspected spam. IB703

and

host extmail.bpbb.bigpond.com [203.36.137.234]
SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: 558 591086AF225F8BB1
Message content rejected due to suspected spam. IB703

On Friday last week my website was hacked & was spamming out. That was quickly resolved. Obviously, due to that spamming by the hacker, my IP is now listed on your blacklist.

Even my website is blocked to Bigpond users with a message... "website may contain Malicious content".

All emails that I try to send to only Bigpond email addresses are falsely detected as Spam even when I try replying to my brother’s email (he is with Bigpond). Even with plain text, they get detected as SPAM by Bigpond & are returned to me... even with only a 1 word subject & only 1 word in the email body.

Please help ASAP.

Jeff Threlfall

I print directly from the Telstra webmail page.

Thanks,

Do you use the print option in the More menu, or do you use the Google Chrome print option located in the overflow menu  ?

The problem may be that the IP address of your mail server could be blacklisted on spamhaus.

Check the IP address of your mailserver at linode to see if it is listed (the IP address doesn't just belong to your specific service, the hosting accounts share an IP address across multiple clients).

,

Not blacklisted if you can access webmail.

Are you able to check to make sure that you are using the correct settings when setting this up on your iPad?

They should be as follows:

IMAP is the recommended setting for Telstra Mail customers

Account type

  • Account type: IMAP

Incoming server details

  • Incoming server address: imap.telstra.com
  • Incoming server port: 993
  • Encrypted connection: SSL

Outgoing server details

  • Outgoing server address: smtp.telstra.com
  • Outgoing server port: 465 (recommended) or 587
  • SMTP authentication: On
  • Encrypted connection: SSL/TLS on port 465 (recommended) or STARTTLS on port 587

Username & Password

  • Enter your full email address (ending in ‘@bigpond.com’, ‘@bigpond.net.au’ or ‘@telstra.com’)
  • Enter your Telstra email account password (case sensitive)

Other settings to check

  • Ensure the checkbox is ticked for ‘Outgoing server requires authentication’.

Jupiter, thanks for your suggestion but my webhost company assure me that the problem is not at their end. Their mail server is NOT blacklisted on spamhaus.

Hi. I use the print option on the "more" menu.  I am still using plain Google, so don't know what the overflow option is! Thanks.

Have you tried using a different web browser such as Mozilla Firefox? - Shelly

No, I haven't.  Why should it make a difference?

I believe it will because of the way the browsers handle the print request.

Hi Shelly,  So would that mean that although I have been fine using Google and it's worked with whatever is needed to print my Telstra emails all this time, it has suddenly become redundant or Telstra has suddenly become non-compatible to it?  Thanks.

From your response, I am unable to ascertain if you have tried the suggestion troubleshooting to help narrow down if the issue is specific to Google Chrome or is able to be replicated in other browser. Let me know once you have tried another browser to see if this allows you to print without error - Shelly

Thank you Shelly.  I will speak to someone who knows more about computers than me about downloading another browser. It might be a few days before I get back to you! Cheers.

In that case, then the spam filtering software is most likely blocking it due to it failing a Reverse DNS lookup. When I check your domain, and do sn SMTP check through mxtoolbox.com it tells me the following:

  • smtp:172.104.45.120
  • Reverse DNS is not a valid Hostname
  • Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner
  • Warning - Does not support TLS.
