Solved??

Whats the solution(s)??

I have time wasted with telstra technicians one minute sir- 40minutes later still no resolution.

It seems telstra can open  my webmail from their end.

I use Mozilla firefox and have tried to open in safe mode no luck; antivirus protection switched off no luck?

I am using Windows 7 Home premium, I would think that the internet browser or anti virus would be the likely cause what else governs my data exchange??

Any assistance welcomed.

Thank you in advance

Its not "SOLVED" not by a longshot, telstra could be blocking ip address's of spam senders, 'VIEW SOURCE" of message, will show 99% of the time is not @ it is .for example  "receiver=extmail.bigpond.com; client-ip=74.208.144.104;
helo=rivereryluw.com";  see client ip address, Telstra could be blocking all of these ip address's but Telstra want to charge for their spam protection, thing is like me a lot of customers who have been with Telstra a long time are already paying for the bigpond service, I have contacted the telecommunications ombudsman, with a lot of evidence, so hopefully the ombudsman will force Telstra to SOLVE this situation very soon.

Hi jimbo6,

Have you tried using a different browser, like Google Chrome?  Are you getting any error message when trying to log in?

You block 97% of them? Then, judging by what I end up with, that makes the problem massive!

I know they use automated programs in hit-and-miss efforts (why you should never click on anything). They also use proxy servers. Must be getting results somewhere to be sending at this degree.

Another trick they use is including MY email address in the From section, so I cannot block it.

Thanks for the wild card plus domain tip. I'll use that - as long as it's not displayed as a site used by me!

Hi Steve,

I'll pass on your request to the email team for future development.

Hi,

All email marked as spam is sent to our security team and to the spam software vendor for analysis.

Generally though what people are seeing are "spam runs" or "spam campaigns". Short lived, maybe a few hours and they are done. So by the time people report them and the spam vendors update their signatures it's too late.

We are constantly making tweaks to our spam protections to limit the amount of spam making it to users mailboxes and will continue to do so.

Spam email that shows as coming from yourself is actually a specific type of spam where the sender uses a blank mailfrom header. This sort of header was designed primarily to be used for bounce back messages and other system generated messages, as such we are forced to accept mail with blank mailfroms.

Spammers know this and abuse it. You can confirm this by viewing the email source and you will find a header which reads:

MAIL FROM:<>

We are aware of this type of spam and are working on method's to block it.

Hi Jeff,

First thing we need to do is find your mail servers IP. If this is a shared hosting provider or you use some other mail service provider to your hosting provider, then your mail server's IP address won't be the same as your domain.

You may need to contact your mail provider to get the details as some mail providers have seperate IP's per MTA.

Once you have the IP(s) do a search on these two sites:

https://www.sophos.com/en-us/threat-center/ip-lookup.aspx

https://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

Primarily the Sophos one is the most interesting as that is likely where you are listed.

I suspect was has happened here is your account (hosting account) was compromised, your domain/IP has made it onto many blacklists during that time. Some of these blacklists would have cleared in ~24hours, but some can take days to clear, so long as your mail server isnt detected sending any more spam.

Normally these sorts of issues fix themselves within 24-48 hours, with some residual impact lingering for 1-2 weeks.

I currently have a mobile broadband service with free bigpond email.

If I cancel the broadband service and do not have another qualifying service, how soon after will I lose the free bigpond email?

Is it as soon as the qualifying service is cancelled or is there some time allowed to make arrangements to change email addresses?

It depends. Typically if you speak to the disconnection team (the people who need to do the cancellation anyway) they can retain the email for you for 12 months for free, after 12 months it would have a charge.

But I would suggest speaking to them first if you wanted to confirm, they are on 132200 and say "disconnect" they are typically based in Adelaide and are open 08:30 am until 9 pm

Spammers employ a number or tricks to help evade the spam filters which all providers constantly adjust to try to eliminate as much as possible.

On a server level we block around 97% of all spam that hits our server and we're continually monitoring and working to improve how we manage spam, however it is a fine balance so that legitimate email is not also picked up in the sweep.

You can manually block a spammer by adding them onto the block list in your web mail platform.

To make it more effective instead of putting the entire email address (eg: george@mcspammy.com) in the block list, try adding just the domain to the block list (e.g. *@mcspammy.com).  Add it in with the * before the @ symbol. This will then block all email coming from @mcspammy.com rather than just the single address.

Hopefully this will be more effective in blocking spammers.  Please note: If you see emails coming from a sub-domain you would treat them as separate domains.

eg: george@spamalot.mcspammy.com

*@mcspammy.com wont block george@spamalot.mcspammy.com
likewise, *@spamalot.mcspammy.com wont block george@mcspammy.com

Hi CyrusRamsey,

If you've marked it as spam it will be moved into the Junk folder.  To un-mark it move the email out of the Junk folder and back into your mail Inbox.

For the last couple days emails from my server to @bigpond.com addresses have been getting blocked and I can't figure out why

not listed on Spamhaus or MX Toolbox blacklist's that I can see

This appears to be all emails to @bigpond.com addresses from a number of different domains hosted on this same IP

Can someone point me in the right direction ?

James

Hi there. I have my primary Bigpond email address as a .net.au and an extra email address as a bigpond.com on the same account I know the password for the primary account as it is used all the time but have forgotten the password of the additional email box as it was set in the pc years ago. We are setting up a new pc with outlook and don't know the password to put in for this. Any ideas as to how to find this out?

This is my first post on here so please bare with me as I fumble around in here Smiley Happy

Hi TMS1968,

Welcome to CrowdSupport Smiley Happy

From the log in here: http://email.telstra.com there is an option to retrieve the password. However your contact mobile will need to match what is on your account.

If needing to change the password, you can log into your My Account here:  http://tel.st/cpyn

Mailbox option is at the bottom on the left, and once you click on that section it will give you both your email address to view.

The drop down then gives you you an option to change password.

Hope this helps Smiley Happy

It has rejected the email based on your domain.

Lookup you domain at mtoolbox.com and see if it has been listed on any of the Blacklists. This is the normal reason why emails get rejected.

From by business email address I am unable to email any bigpond.com or bigpond.net.au email addresses for the past week. In my outlook the emails show as sent with no problems but never get received by the recipient.

I have checked mxtoolbox and spamhaus websites and there doesn't seem to be any issues that I can see. Any other customers I email that dont have bigpond accounts receive my emails ok.

How do we resolve this please?

Thank you.
