It's been happening since the 25th on January 2017.

 

 ~800K emails were being deffered / bounced : Connection refused due to exceed max concurrent connections. IB007

 

affected domains :
- bigpond.com

- bigpond.com.au

- bigpond.net.au

- telstra.com.au

 

TELSTRA please help!

I have no idea what 5.2.1 is but on a quick look it could be...

 

521 Recipient address rejected

This error indicates that the AOL member email address no longer exists or the address is misspelled.

 

I got that here under 'other errors'. Link is safe, I just used it myself.

Think it's more AOL than Telstra.

Anyone have a clue as per what the root cause is? 

What happened between 24/01 and 25/01 - an extmail.bigpond.com  upgrade??

 

Sounds like a Sev1 issue - Forwarding to Bigpond hosted domains broke, senders rejected, multiple customers affected, mail lost... Any announcements on mail service interruption?

 

Just got off the phone to 'Basic Hosting Team'  in the Phllipines 1800 789685 -  5days on - they are still clueless, deny any knowledge of  root cause,  no ETA for resolution  - waiting for an 'update'

 

Lodged 2 complaints - no follow up

 

Anyone from Telstra leaderhsip team reading this??????

Hello Shelly

I have a similar problem as Martybuzz and wanted to change my modem password from the rather simple one used to connect (which is different to my Bigpond ID or Telstra ID passwords!).  If the modem isn't bothering with the password, then I won't bother trying to change it for something a bit more secure.  I'm using a Gateway 2 TG800vac with ADSL2 in QLD.

 

If it is using a password then how do I change this modem password as it is an aged one from years ago and bears no relation to my Bigpond sign-in password.

Come on Telstra - how long is this mess going to continue for. 

Sack the person who implemented the change last week ... get your servers running back as usual, and move on.

Just got a call from Level 2 support informing me that the problem was 'fixed'. Hahahah - I laughed - you don't even know what the problem is, you have never even asked me for an email header, you have never even emailed me about it, there is a thread with dozens of posts complaining about IB508 on the internet and you can't even view your own Crowsupport thread - how would you even know what the issue is?  Oh - she said. I'll refer that back to level 2 back office. 

 

And I:

1. Have just cancelled my direct debit facility with Telstra.

2. No more payments until email is fixed ... and damages paid for lost email rejected by Telstra.

3. Ombudsman complaint next

Nothing is fixed , email isnt getting through - just tried emailing from a test yahoo.com account.

what a disgrace...

 

 Lodged 2 complaints - happy to share SR numbers, no response. Unbelievable - a major service is messed up for 5 days.  Where is their Service delivery manager? 

 

Perhaps one of these guys need to be informed to interfere and  sort this mess out

Hi All, just been on the phone to Telstra support for 40min  & clearly they don't know ? I simply want to set up a new mailbox on my Bigpond account so I can give my daughter her own  email address ?  I've also gone to MY ACCOUNT on BigPond site as I believe this is where you are meant to add new accounts but it's just not possible.  so does anyone know how I can add a new mailbox to my account. ?

I have the same issue with all emails now lost.

 

I spent over three hours on the phone only to be told that I could only make contact with the domain team by email and they have no contact phone number. Pretty poor form for a telco company that make much of their money from phone calls.

 

 I received a call from Telstra and he explained that this issue is a major fault with no resolution at this stage and no ETA.  When asked about compensation he said he does not deal with this and I would need to make a claim in writing and they would still be charging me for my service even though it was not working.

 

i will be doing what he surgests and making my complaint in writing but to the telecommunications ombudsman not directly to Telstra as they could not care less about issue they have caused.

Hi Shellock,

 

Its not straight forward by any means.

 

One laptop and Apple iphone are configured to the email address affected.

My husband had gone through a check of settings on the laptop with Telstra yesterday and all good.

I checked settings on laptop and iphone tonight as per IMAP settings for Telstra Mail I printed off from the support section of Telstra support. They are all good and ok.

 

Our virus software is Norton, i'm not an expert with regards to the set up of it, but ive had a quick laymans look and it looks ok to me. Ive done a system check and that all went ok.

I may have to contact Norton?

 

When my husband sends emails he doesnt get any error messages or bounce back responses.

His clients have not received any bounce back or error messages when they send emails to him.

Once we establish that an email hasnt arrived to either us or the client, the relative email is sent again and it comes through immediately.

Thanks for fixing this problem, now I do not have to scroll back to the top of evry email to delete it.

Well , congratulations - you seem to have an acknowledgment:

Pretty much sums it up. Catchall email forwarding STOPPED WORKING. No ETA. 


Amazing they even know about it.

Actually - the problem is not just for bigpond hosted domains ... and the problem started before Jan 25, and your domain does not appear to be hosted by bigpond - so - don't get your hopes up.

Hi,

I notice that this problem has been commented on but I cant seem to find any solution.  If I place more than two attachments on an email, I cant see what I'm typing.  I could always use anothe application to do emailing but if I do will the data be unmetered? As I dont live 'city-centric' download speeds are slow and expensive so I dont want to waste what little data I can afford now on metered data.

Bit of a pointless email program if you cant use attachments.  Surely there must be a fix for this? Otherwise it seems to be an advanced form of SMS...

Full week now without email - for small business this is simply KILLING US 

 

Have spent 1-2 hours daily on the phone to them with zero help , zero calls back or any contact via phone or email to advise 

what is happening or even offer any support 

 

This is nothing short of a disgrace .

2 Complaints opened - zero response.

Individual escalation (INC) raised through this 'basic hosting team'  to no avail

 

My domain is Bigpond hosted,  the MX record is  'extmail.bigpond.com' - so they is no way they can weasle out of this.

 

Script kiddies offered a 'workaround' which is unworkable  - create individual mailboxes (which willl have individual passwords)  for each and every address in the domain and setup individual forwarding... putting out the  fire with gasoline

 

It is time for Telstra commercial people to look into this as their so called support is unable to cope
