Can't enter TO email address or retrieve contacts

I can't enter a TO email address in Telstra Mail.  As soon as I type the first character I get an error message "Your request could not be completed.  Please try again."  If I try to look at Contacts I also get an error message: "Your auto-complete address book could not be retrieved.  Please try again later".  This has been going on for days so haven't been able to send any emails.

Hi Shelley. Having emails restored by 31 March might be ok if this was 1990 but seriously..why did Telstra move off Outlook.com's excellent service if the new one can't deliver a reliable service. Email is pretty much an essential service and other like Gmail seem to be able to get it right..what's Telstra's problem?

It seems that some emails are starting to reappear but it is now the 29th March and I have little confidence that I will be "next on the list".

 

This morning I heard an ad on the radio about a business being help by Telstra to set up "in the cloud" and they now sell their project homes nationally. i laughed out loud thinking that it was "in spite of not because of" Tesltra.

 

They cant get the basics right like dealing with issues like ours how can they support businesses.

 

I think their approach is that if it drags on long enough we just give up. Not this little Black duck!!

Each time I setup a second email address the prompt says will be processed in 30 mins but 3 days later nothing. Is there a step by step guide on how so I can check in doing it right?

I have had the same problem since the week-end .. they did a systems update and I think things are still messed up.

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but the same is happening to me. I also get the same message when trying to open emails. I hope someone answers your question.

I am having the same problem. It has now been 17 days since first reported.

I cant get anything progressed with the complaints section, and cant even speak with a supervisor.

No one will pay me the courtesy of advising what is the issue with my email, or resetting it.

I am happy to change password, anything to get access.

If anyone knows how to progress this with Telstra within Australia, as I am hitting a huge brick wall in the Philippines.

I'd be happy to place an out of office response, except it seems to need my computer to be turned on while I'm away. Am I wrong?

Why is it that when I send a new email or reply to an email, the font options do not aleays appear?

 

Trouble with old inactive bigpond email

Whenever the receipients of my emails use or reply to my current email;  they receive an error in their inbox saying email could not be sent to check address. BUT the message is from an old inactive bigpond email address.

 

Here is the problem: 

 

I receive their emails no problem.

 

The recipients think the error is from the email address they used and is incorrect: but it is from my old inactive bigpond email that I have not used for some years now.

 

Because of this I lose vital communication and only find out about this if they call saying I have given them the wrong email address, which I haven''t.

 

Is there a way to rid this inactive email address from coming up on their inbox as an error.

 

I had two email addresses at the time, but made one inactive before telsta took over.

If using WEB mail check that "Compose Messages in Rich Text Format" is ticked

Click on settings top right.

Click on Mail.

Scroll down to "Compose Messages in Rich Text Format"

Yippee!!  I'm getting really excited.  Only two more sleeps to go and then all of my lost emails will be restored.  How do I know?  A couple of weeks ago, Telstra told me so it must be true.

Cant read email contents when opened

Good Afternoon,

 

I am having difficulty reading email contents. When I open up an email, I cannot read anything in the email. If I receive something from say an airline- regarding tickets, there is no information in the email, it just appears blank.

 

How do I repair this issue?

If using WEB mail it could be caused by display images is not enabled.

Log in to WEB mail

Click on Settings top right

Click on Mail

Scroll down in left column to Block Images

Select Allow all except Spam"

 

Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: HELO/EHLO rejected. OB301

Hello,

 

Does anyone know the meaning of Telstra's SMTP server returning an "OB301" error?

 

An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded:  HELO/EHLO rejected. OB301.

 

I can no longer send emails to the smtp.telstra.com/smtp.bigpond.com server from one of the computers on my LAN. The symptoms are:

 

  1. One of my computers has no problems, but outgoing email stopped working a week ago on another.
  2. Both run the same OS (Fedora Linux), the same email client (Thunderbird), and the same outgoing server settings.
  3. I deleted the Thunderbird config directory to rule out an account settings corruption problem. No change.
  4. Changing to the Gmail SMTP server works fine.
  5. I've tried all permutations of server addresses and authentication parameters. No change.

So the Telstra server must be rejecting email from just this computer for some reason.

 

If I knew the meaning of OB301, I could try to fix it.

I agree.  Very poor service with Email.  It's been so bad for so long I am now telling everyone to use my Gmail account as bigpond is too unreliable.  Takes over 24hrs to get emails too.

It's going to be like Christmas Eve - going to be hard for Mum and Dad to get us to go to bed/sleep tomorrow night!
